The Eco Warriors at St Agnes has children from both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Every half- term we have a new topic and meet to discuss ways in which we can do our bit to help protect the environment. It is one of our duties as Catholics to care for our common home and preserve the planet we live on for ourselves and future generations.
During a recent project, we focused on waste. We discussed the ways in which disposing of waste has a huge environmental impact and causes serious problems across the world. Considering how the three Rs of waste management -Reduce, Reuse and Recycle- can lower the impact of this on the earth, the Eco Warriors inspired us in the ways in which we can reuse household materials instead of throwing them away. Here are some of their wonderful creations!
The Eco Warriors also collaborate with fundraising projects and help to promote them across the school. Recently, they voted to fundraise for a medical outreach team organised by CAFOD. This has enabled a team of medical professionals to bring essential healthcare services to the remotest communities. Together the school community raised a total of £945.
In the future, we hope that the Eco Warriors Club continues to grow and that the children can carry on contributing and learning about growing plants, fruits and vegetables using the school garden. We hope to carry on regular meetings to spread the message throughout the school.
