What is a School Travel Plan (STP)?
At St Agnes’ we are proud to have achieved the TfL Travel for Life Gold accreditation. This has involved working on our School Travel Plan (STP) which is a package of measures aimed at reducing car use and improving safety on the journey to school. It is based on consultation with pupils, staff, parents and Governors and is developed in partnership with the wider community. The STP process takes into account personal safety, road safety, environmental and healthy lifestyle issues.
The average journey to school is less than one kilometre, that’s around a 10-minute walk. However, many of these journeys are made by car leading to congestion and an unsafe and polluted environment for us all. By swapping car journeys for active travel, we can make a real difference to our local community and the wider world.
There are elements that each STP should contain and these are:
- Survey results
- Objectives and (SMART) targets
- An action plan of activities and measures.
- A programme of monitoring and review.
- Support and signatures from the headteacher and the governors.
What we have done at St Agnes’ to support our STP:
- Walk Once a Week
- WOW Badge Designs
- Use public transport for school trips
- Big Pedal
- Explorers Ambassadors
- Bikers Breakfast
- Bling Your Bike
- Walk to School Week
- School Street scheme
School Street
St Agnes’ is part of the School Streets scheme. The aim of School Streets is to create a safer environment for pupils to walk and cycle to school by reducing the high volumes of traffic around schools. More information can be found here: https://www.engage.barnet.gov.uk/hub-page/school-streets-hub
